Preparations
1% (gel, lotion)
Combination with 0.5-2.5% HC available (lotion, cream, foam, ointment)
Mechanism of Action
Ester anesthetic (sodium channels):
Blocks transmission of sensory nerve impulses, anesthetizing cutaneous nerve endings
Hypoalgesic effect on cold pain only (no effect on heat pain)
Indications
Uremic pruritus
Histamine induced itch
Notalgia paresthetica
Pruritus ani
Nonspecific itch

ACD (very rare)

Effect: 2-4 hours
