Mucosal disease
- Topical antiseptics ±

- Oral antihistamines
- If identifiable precipitating factor: specific therapy (e.g.: chronic suppressive antiviral therapy)
- Systemic corticosteroids (severe erythema multiforme with functional impairment)
Prophylaxis
- For HSV-associated:
- Oral acyclovir (10 mg/kg/day in divided doses)
- Valacyclovir (500–1000 mg daily)
- Famciclovir (250 mg twice daily)
- If resistant chronic EM:
- Azathioprine
- Prednisone
- Thalidomide
- Dapsone
- Cyclosporine
- Mycophenolate mofetil
- Psoralen Ultraviolet A
