Topical Diphenylcyclopropenone “DPCP” and Topical Squaric Acid Dibutylester “SADBE”

  • Smaller sensitization area (2 x 2 cm) applied 2 times per week to wart itself (start at 0.5% and titrate up)
  • Induction of Allergic Contact Dermatitis (“antigenic competition” theory)

Off label

  • Alopecia areata
  • Verruca vulgaris
  • localized > widespread allergic contact dermatitis; regional lymphadenopathy; rarely vitiligo, leukoderma, erythema multiforme, urticaria & contact urticaria

  • Treatment protocol for alopecia areata: sensitize 4×4 cm area with 2% solution in acetone, then apply 0.001% solution to same half of scalp weekly; gradually increase concentration (goal: maintain erythema for 24-36 hrs after app). Response usually seen after 12 weeks; can repeat for other areas
