Podophyllotoxin

Formulations 

  • Podofilox 0.5% gel or 0.15% cream

Dosage 

  • Patient applied twice daily x 3 consecutive days with 4-day rest period and repeated weekly for 4 weeks

  • Extract from Mayapple plant: active ingredient is podophyllotoxin
  • Podophyllotoxin is an antimitotic agent that arrests cells in metaphase by reversibly binding tubulin

FDA

  • Genital warts

  • Inflammation, burning, erythema, erosions

  • Avoid in Pregnancy

  • Podofilox does NOT contain quercetin or kaemperol which are known mutagens
  • Safer than podophyllin
