Clinicopathologic correlation is essential, as the histopathologic findings are not pathognomonic. Infectious causes must always be excluded in the presence of granulomas. Clinical lesions are often found in the perioral or perianal regions.
Granulomatous inflammation may extend into the subcutaneous fat (panniculus).
Nodular infiltrates of non-caseating granulomas, composed of epithelioid cells and multinucleated giant cells, surrounded by lymphocytes and plasma cells.
