Dermatofibroma – low magnification

DF changes in the early days

Dermatofibroma

LEGEND

More or less well-demarcated nodule in the dermis that may extend into the hypodermis.

Composed of spindle-shaped or triangular fibroblasts

Presence of histiocytes

Multinucleated or foamy giant cells may be present

Peripheral clusters of dense collagen (keloidal collagen), often sequestered by fibroblasts

  • Flattening of epidermal ridges

  • Presence of a Grenz zone

Dermatofibroma

LEGEND

  • A +/- well-defined nodule in the dermis that gradually fades at the periphery.

Dermatofibroma

LEGEND

  • Keloidal collagen surrounded by fibroblasts frequently found at the periphery of the lesion
