Superficial diffuse or nodular dermal infiltrate, polymorphous, composed primarily of lymphocytes, but also includes eosinophils, macrophages, multinucleated giant cells, and plasma cells.

- Epidermis may be normal or may exhibit spongiosis and/or mild vacuolar interface dermatitis
