Leiomyoma

Benign nodular proliferation of smooth muscle cells originating from the arrector pili muscles or smooth muscles of the genital region
Non-encapsulated dermal tumor
Smooth muscle cells group together to form large bundles
Leiomyoma

LEGEND
Spindle-shaped smooth muscle cells possess a nucleus resembling a cigar, which ends abruptly with a rectangular appearance (blunt-ended cigar nuclei).
Their cytoplasm is pale pink, abundant, and fibrillar in appearance.
- Muscle bundles are visualized transversely or longitudinally depending on their orientation at the time of sectioning.
Leiomyoma

Leiomyoma

LEGEND
Positivity for actin, desmin, and trichrome stains confirming the muscular origin of the tumor
Depending on the section:
Longitudinal view: visualization of abundant fibrillar cytoplasm and cigar-shaped nucleus
Transverse section: visualization of a perinuclear vacuole
Leiomyoma

LEGEND
Other hypotheses include origin from the arrector pili muscles or smooth muscles originating from adjacent vessels
Clusters of smooth muscles found at the periphery of the lesion suggest an origin from genital smooth muscles in the presented case
