LEGEND
An increase in the width of the base of the epidermal ridges is observed, also known as clubbed rete ridges due to their resemblance to a golf club.
The term psoriasiform acanthosis may be used when there is thickening of the entire epidermis with elongation of the rete ridges resembling those seen in psoriasis.
Epidermal ridges elongated in a regular fashion (all symmetrical in both width and length)

Elongation and widening of the epidermal ridges that eventually fuse at their base

Dilated vessels in the papillary dermis near the surface clinically correspond to Auspitz sign
Thinning of the suprapapillary plates of the epidermis brings the dilated papillary dermal vessels closer to the skin surface
Hypogranulosis resulting in thinning or complete absence of the epidermal granular layer
