Miliaria crystallina

Miliaria refers to obstruction of the eccrine sweat gland ducts. It can present in three forms depending on the depth of the obstruction: miliaria crystallina (obstruction at the stratum corneum), miliaria rubra (obstruction at the stratum spinosum) and miliaria profunda (obstruction at the dermoepidermal junction)

  • Intra- or subcorneal vesicle with minimal inflammation and mild focal spongiosis

  • The lesion is centered over an eccrine duct, with a mild lymphohistiocytic infiltrate surrounding it
