Trichoepithelioma – overview

LEGEND
Benign tumor with germinative follicular differentiation
Low magnification appearance resembles that of a basal cell carcinoma
Palisaded lobules formed by basaloid cells
Found in Brooke-Spiegler, Rombo, and Bazex-Dupré-Christol syndromes.
Small cyst formation may occur (transformation in the isthmic epithelium of the hair follicle).
Trichoepithelioma

LEGEND
Distinguished from basal cell carcinoma by:
Fibrous stoma
Absence of retraction clefts (see basal cell carcinoma section for comparison)
Absence of cellular atypia
Trichoepithelioma

LEGEND
Fibrous and organized stroma at periphery of lobules
Absence of retraction
