Lobular panniculitis

In the presented case, the patient was previously known to have lupus; the lobular panniculitis was attributed to this condition.

Features supporting the diagnosis of lupus panniculitis, although absent in this case, include vacuolar interface dermatitis changes and the presence of mucin.

  • Inflammation localized at the level of the adipose tissue lobules

  • Adipocyte damage progressing to necrosis

  • Predominance of lymphocytic infiltrates within the lobules
